Did you know that Papua is one of the few places in the world where you can easily see and swim with whale sharks?

These majestic, endangered animals can grow up to 12 meters! It is a special experience to get to swim with these rare, enormous creatures that are known to be very gentle and docile. This is one of Papua's most exclusive trips!

 

The mass presence of whale sharks on the coast of Papua can be explained by the activity of fishermen. Over the years, fishermen and whale sharks have gained a mutually beneficial relationship as the sharks are attracted by the fish that escape from the nets or are rejected by the fishermen. On the other hand, the whale sharks offer protection to the fishermen by keeping other predators away. During this tour you will stay with a friendly local Papuan family, giving you a good chance to see the local life style up close!

 

We are well-aware that whale sharks are currently listed as a vulnerable species. They are continued to be hunted in other parts of Asia, even though it is now strictly illegal under the international law. In Cendrawasih bay, besides the fishermen, the local people have now also a chance to benefit from the tourism related to seeing these beautiful animals. We actively monitor the safety and professionalism of the swimming activities when we visit them.

Itinerary:

Day 01

Nabire Arrival – Whale Shark Excursion

Take a morning flight arrive in Nabire airport before 11am. Upon your arrival in Nabire airport, you’ll be picked up by a local guide to Soa Beach/Pantai Soa (Near Whale Sharks Spots) village for about 3-hours journey. Pantai Soa village is located in Cenderawasih Bay, the largest national park in Indonesia. Arrive in Pantai Soa village; check in at a home stay.

 

In the afternoon, we prepare for a whale shark adventure that located about 10 minutes by speedboat. Whale shark (Rhincodon typus) is the largest extant fish that can grow up to 12.65m; this gentle giant only eats planktons and other small fishes. Return to the Guest house for dinner. After dinner, we visit night bagan or floating fishing platform to see local fisherman feed the whale shark. Then afterward we return to the home stay for rest overnight.

Day 2  (Full Day Swim With Sharks & Snorkeling Around The Sharks Spots (Snorkeling with Sharks, All meals (fish barbeque), fishing fresh fishes, & sunsets) 

Day 03 | Whale Shark Excursions – Return to Nabire

After breakfast we get ready for another whale shark adventure. Off

to whale shark spot that located only 10 minutes by motorized canoe. Swim side by side with whale shark; visit Bagan to buy fish for the whale shark (optional). In the afternoon we return to the home stay for lunch. The in appropriate time we return to Nabire. Check in at your accommodation for rest overnight.

Day 04                                                                                

Nabire –Timika-Jayapura- connect to Sorong or Baliem valley

Special Notes:

1. Arrival time in Nabire airport should be before 11 am
2. For afternoon arrival, you’re required to stay overnight in Soa Beach Home Only standard accommodations available in Pantai Soa village with no internet connection, phone reception, and electricity only run from 6pm to 6am, sometimes no lights-Candle lights party.
